It seems like lately I have been forgetting to add my whirlfloc tablet. This time I even set it out when I started my boil. Still forgot it......

What do you do to remember it?

I use my phones alarm for hop scheduling, immersion chiller and whirfloc.

    $hit happens:p

Do you have any late hop additions? whirlflock works with only 10 - 7 - 5 mins of boil so just add half a tablet to any of the late hop additions.

I've started to cruch the tab into powder as it dissolves in a second that way.

Also time will drop most beers clear.

I use the timer/alarm on my thermometer. I have each hop addition, any other additions and the Whirlfloc set out in little bowls stacked in the order I'll need them. The alarm goes off, add what's in the top bowl, set the timer for the next addition.

I make a time schedule in a note pad, counting down from the boil to flame out. Everything from hops to whirlfloc. Even when to start my whirlpool.

I always add it when I put the immersion chiller in at 15. Throw in the coil, throw in a tab. It also helps to have software such as Beersmith so you can print out a brewsheet to remind you to do things like this.

I weigh out all my hop additions pre-boil and put them in little bowls. I usually have a 10 or 15 minute addition and I put the whirfloc tablet in that hop bowl...then toss them both into the boil together.

I always plan on adding it at 15 minutes. I set it out on the counter with my hops.

Unless I have 15 minutes hops, though, I usually forget.

I sometimes remember when I start recirculating the boiling wort through my CFC, and think, "Oh ****!" and toss it in. So I usually add my whirlfloc at 12.5 minutes.

If I remember at all. :drunk:

I put mine in Ziploc bags so my neighbors think I'm weighing out pot.

Just don't mix it up WITH your pot... :D

I use Beer Smith's brew sheet, having the tablet in the ingredients, it places it into the additions list, with how long it needs to be in the boil for... I don't have complicated hop bills, or additions (so far) which does make it a bit easier.

I do prep before I start the boil, so I'll have the hops ready to go in at least a few minutes ahead (everything is placed on the table/counter so that I know what's what and such)...

I haven't had an issue remembering to add things. When not brewing at home, the bigger issue is getting the timing right (or close enough)...

I do this except I use the clock app on my phone. Once the boil starts just set alarms for all the additions, recirculation, etc.

Everything I'm adding goes on one end of my table in the garage at the beginning of the brew, in sequence. I just work my way down the line.

This is my issue. If I have late addition hops I remember nearly 100% of the time. However, when I don't have them it is a crap shoot. Especially if I am enjoying a past brew while brewing...

+1, I weigh and separate whilst the mash is on the go. The brewery I've been getting experience at only adds them 5min before the end. But they don't chill straight away, they add aroma hops at flameout and let it sit for 30mins before going through the chiller (which only take a couple of minutes).

Their get a good cold break so it must work fine for them.

IC, yeast nutrient, and Whirlfloc all go in at T-15. People give different times, but, whatever.

That brewing alarm app looks cool. I will give it a try. Personally, I use timer+ which is a really nice general-purpose app (also free, although it has ads). You can create an arbitrary number of timers, so when the boil gets going, I start timers for the 30, 15, 5 minute additions and knockout. Works for other applications too (cooking, etc).

I crush my whirlfloc as I usually do 5 gallon batches and the tabs are for 10. I then weigh it out and add the yeast nutrient and put them in a small bowl. This goes in at around 5 minutes or a bit less from flame out. My brewing system has a PLC that includes a boil timer.
