    My local brew store doesn't have much of a selection. What is the best online supplier? I also dont have a grain mill at the moment.

    I like http://www.brewmasterswarehouse.com because you can put together recipes with complex grain bills and not have to buy a lb or 1/2 lb of a certain grain crushed that you will not use - great for 3 gallon batches too.

    I second brewmasters warehouse. Use them all the time. pretty good crush to their grain too. I hit 72% efficiency on the last batch (BIAB). They ship pretty quick if everything is in stock. I ordered sunday night got it wednesday.

    Northern Brewer, Midwest, Austin Homebrew, Rebel Brewing, Brewmasters Warehouse....

    These guys all do enough volume that their grain is very fresh. I do BIAB, and all of these guys have been kind enough to double mill my grain for free upon request. If I want to brew a clone beer, I always go to these guys. If I am making or copying a recipe, I tend to go to my LHBS.

    I am going to do a NewCastle clone and am putting together ingredients. Could one of you explain this to me.

    1.00 lb Cara-Pils/Dextrine (2.0 SRM)
    1.00 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 20L (20.0 SRM)
    1.00 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM)
    1.00 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 80L (80.0 SRM)

    the Cara-Pils/Dextrine ..... what exactly is that, I cant seem to find it in the drop down.

    on brewmasters warehouse they list caramel malt and they list crystal malt.

    - 60L (60.0 SRM) = What do these numbers designate?
    - 80L (80.0 SRM)

    This article explains it well: http://byo.com/stories/wizard/article/section/121-mr-wizard/1619-what-is-carapils-and-what-are-those-other-qcaraq-malts
    Cara = Caramel = Crystal

    The 'L' = Lovibond (degrees Lovibond)- which correlates to how much color the malt contributes to your brew (your brewing calculator will factor this in). The higher the number before the L, the darker the malt's color contribution. SRM is another measurment of beer color, both are explained here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Degrees_Lovibond#By_colour

    Hope that helps!
