What's the popular temperature sensor size for homebrew?--Inkbird reseach

As long as the temp sensor used is accurate, and the probe exterior is stainless, I don't particularly care if it' too long but I could see an issue if it was too short.

I think you'd likely get better info if you found out what most people use their probes in, then determine the interior height of that item, pick the probe that fits the data.

 

Is the probe the regular NTC type?

 

Yeah. the probe that fits the data is very important. We are improving our temperature controller which can fit better for homebrewing. We will hear more voices from you. Thanks again.

 

Yes. It is also the NTC type. We just make the stainless material longer. Like the picture shows.

 

If used in a kegerator I'd like one on those bottle style probes for a bit of thermal mass.


For my fermenting chamber id like something small and flat as its going to be taped to the side of the fermenter.

Since it is stainless steel, I would use it directly in the fermenting vessel, which means it would need to be long enough to go into the wort from the lid/cap. Personally, I would prefer a 12" probe. What portion of the probe contains the sensor, the tip? Also, is an NTC type probe the kind that the ITC-1000 uses?

 

I'd prefer size B, specifically because sometimes I brew a 2.5 or 3 gallon batch and use a 5 gallon bucket. So the 8" probe would not be submerged in the wort while the 12" would work just fine. Would the probe be replaceable? Something that long is bound to get bent at some point during its lifetime.

 

Semi off topic, a 3m option or 2m extension on the cord would be awesome.
I use thermowells for fermentation so as long as it fits, no worries.
I could see a long ss probe good for adding to a kettle providing it could withstand such abuse. Of couse that would only be useful in an electric rig, and would require much larger relays.

 

Sorry I'm late on this topic. As I am new to using the ink bird temp sensor myself. Model 308 in use now. I use it to control fermentation. Probe is in a thermowell. So I agree it should be able to fit as some probe diameters are to thick. Also I would not want to directly place into fermenting beverage. the probe supplied with the 308 fits nice. By the way I have already recommended this model to others for ease of use and solid performance. As of today used for 3 months.

 

I agree I currently made 12" and a 16" thermowell to insert my stc sensors into which I have stuck into a stopper with 2 holes drilled into it.. one for the thermowell and the other for the airlock.
