with a hydrometer or a refractometer? check again if it was with a refractometer - sometimes the sanitizing solution waters down the sample

What temp did u take ur readings? Hot temps will make ur hydro reading way low than its calibrated to.

At best that's adjusted to 1.027. (I think) do you crush your own grain?

so you put 4lb of grain and 3lb of DME to make up for your short-comings......

How big of a batch is this? 3 gallons?

No. I just put in the 3lb of DME to make it up.

    Here was the recipe:
4 lb (1.81 kg) Pilsner (2-Row) Malt (German)
3 lb (1.36 kg) Munich Malt (German)
2 lb (.91 kg) Vienna Malt (German)
    12 oz (340 g) Caramel/Crystal Malt (60 °L)
    .5 oz (14 g) Hallertauer Hops 4.8% (20 min)
    1.5 oz (42 g) Hallertauer Hops 4.8% (60 min)

(I added 3lb of DME Golden to make up for my crappy efficiency)
