Using plastic water bottles

Can plastic water bottles be used as a secondary? I have some with handles and, being plastic, are safer to handle than a glass carboy. The orange caps seem to fit nice and snug on them too. I wouldn't want them for a primary because there would be no headroom for the foam but that usually isn't and issue in secondary.

Any experiences using them would be help ful.

If it's PET go for it. It's a #10 stopper that fits in them.

 

THere's a ton of threads on this, in fact there were 3 seperate ones yesterday.

Search for "water bottle" "Culligan bottle" "water jug" "Absopure bottle" "spring water jug" or any other name for a water jug you can think of. Or just scroll through the threads in the beginners forum, you can't miss one, there's at least 2-3 a day.

Ultimately though it's your choice. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with them, though some folks are concered as to which recycling code is on the bottom, especially where BPE is concerned, and others aren't..... And the thing to consider is how long you plan on using it for. I'm lagering for no more than a month, so I'm not worried.

Basically you want recycling code <1> or <2> on the bottom.

 

Dang, recycling code is a 7. Just thought I'd save on not getting the PET bottles online.

Whenever you want to purchase water bottle, then make sure that it is PET, BPA free and also avoid this #7 no plastic bottle. As per my personal opinion always prefer glass bottle for healthy life .
