I'm sterilizing my kegs and kegerator after a brewing buddy who specializes in sour beers infected a 55-gal batch that a number of us helped make. I opened and cleaned all my ball-lock QDs and bought new o-rings, and am curious if I should lightly coat them with keg lube before putting them back together? I notice that they don't seem to be lubed when I buy them new.

    Any ideas?

i do - they say it helps keep the rubber from drying out. i don't know if it works better, since they still seem to get cracks in them, over time.

I only lube the o-rings on the exterior of the QD.

This. I made the mistake of not doing that. Once.
I darn near had a hernia trying to get the QD off. A little lube, and it's no problem.

There's no need to lube the inside of a QD, just lube the keg o-rings...

    Cheers!
