U type Keg to Fermenter

Ok, so I got an old Keg shell from a friend and I want to get the stem removed. It has a U - system valve and I have read all of the posts on all different types of kegs but there appears not to be one on how to remove this type. If anyone has done this before can you please help me out and if you have pictures that would be great too. Thanks.
