I wanted to put a 90 degree fitting on my chugger pump output. Using a wrench I tightened it l as much as possible and the fitting needed to turn another 45 degrees to be where I wanted it. If I backed it off 315 degrees is facing the correct way but it's not even tight.

What do I do when then happens? How do I get the fitting to face the direction I want it to?

How about adjusting the position of the insert you're to which you're attaching the fitting? Would that be tight

I'd add just add a few wraps of Teflon tape to the fitting till it stops where you want it to.

Flip the elbow, maybe the other side is tighter when you get to the right position?
    Use extra teflon tape?

I think the Chugger threads are straight, while the elbow and other connectors are tapered (NPT), which may be part of the problem. Not much room where the connection is tight.

I am using a street so I can not flip it. It is a cheap eBay China fitting though and it seems to go from losr to very tight in about 1/4 turn. I tried one ogb my higher end fittings and it seemed to have more play. The cheap fitting must be the issue...

Are you using teflon tape? It lubricates the threads. Ideally if you had a pipe tap, you could chase the threads on the elbow to clean them up enough to make it the rest of the way.

If you don't have a tap, thread a piece of SS pipe or another male fitting in, and see if it cleans the threads up a bit. Use plenty of tape, teflon dope (blue monster or so), or even better, (cutting) oil. You only need to gain 1/4 turn max.

The last thing you want to do is break off the outlet nipple or crack the head on your pump.
