    Hey all,

My Ranco 2-stage temp control came in the mail yesterday so I hooked it up to my 15 cubic foot fermentation chamber and got it fired up...

I have a quick observation that I want to confirm is "normal" so I can rest my worries.

The freezer was at a stable 52 degrees before I began (digital thermometer). I insulated the probe to my test batch (water) and checked it's temperate - it was roughly 54 degrees.

Now, I set my Ranco cool setting at 68 (2 differential) and heat setting at 64 (2 differential). I know the heater will have to work (small Lasko ceramic heater) hard to heat the freezer and water up. I just checked and my water temp has rised to 57 degrees and my freezer thermometer read 114!!

That 114 has me concerned, but I am assuming it is normal since it will need to run continually at first to warm everything up. Thoughts?

Also, what can I expect once it reaches the target volume. For example, I know the water will reach 68 with the freezer temp still around 120 degrees - again, I'm assuming the freezer will kick on to cool it down if teh wort goes above 70? How long does it take to "balance out?"

Finally, do my Ranco temp settings look ok? Thanks!

Not really sure about what you're asking but I would like to note that you should check the amperage draw that you're putting thru the controller. They are NOT the same as the single stage one.
Here is what happened to mine.
