Today I learned that 99% Isopropyl alcohol will attack the polymers in acrylic.

I melted my auto siphon when I went to sanitize it!

Lucky I had the SS racking cane to use.

    Just thought I would share.

    EDIT:
I have also learned that it is useless as a sanitizer. You need 30% water to carry the alcohol through the cell membranes!
    I will stick with StarSan...

How/why do you even HAVE 99% isopropyl alcohol? Do you work in a lab?

Reminds me of when we used acetone to connect metal parts to plastic handles.

you shouldnt be able to buy that concentration of isopropyl. Best in the store is less than 10% i think

I remember seeing guys in the pits filling 3lb coffee cans with rocks & soak'em with methanol to cook breakfast over. Same thing sorta.
I used to power the lamp in my chemistry set with that type of alcohol.

Ha, no but I guess that it is a little off the norm. My co-worker used to have a printing company and he brought it to me when he heard me talking about brewing and sanitizing.

You can buy, no restrictions that I am aware of. Paper Plus in Southfield MI is were he bought his supplies.
