Does anyone butter their bread before they toast it?
Normally I butter my toast after it comes out of the toaster, except when I make spagetti. I butter the bread before I toast it. It comes out more like garlic bread and not breakfast toast. Needless to say SWMBO had a fit that I was going to damage our new toaster.

i would say do it under the broiler if you're going to butter beforehand.
i doubt if it'll ruin your toaster, but i could see it leaving buttery bits on the insides, which wouldn't be great on a poptart.

plus, then your swmbo will be happy.
