I recently made a pale ale which turned out really well. Or least the first few bottles I tasted did. However, as I've worked my way through the case I made, I've come across a couple bottles that are virtually tasteless. They have no body and no malt flavor, just a little hop bitterness and some sharp carbonation.

Are these particular bottles infected? Oxidized? There's no "off" flavor to speak of, just a notable absence of any flavor whatsoever.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm hoping to bottle a new batch tonight and want to head off any problems my process may be causing.

    Thanks.

Sounds to me like you had an infection in a few bottles. Did they gush with carbonation when you opened them? You may not have tasted any off flavors because the hop flavor is covering it up. Or perhaps these bottles are just so overly carbonated that it overrides the other flavors in the beer.

I haven't come across a gusher yet, though the carbonation was more noticeable in the affected bottles. I thought it was just more apparent due to the lack of body but I guess it could be due to some bug eating through some of the non-fermentables?

What temperature are you drinking these at? Sometimes just allowing the beer to warm up will bring out the flavor of the beer. Thou if all these were put in the fridge at the same time then that would not explain the difference in certain bottles.

I typically take them out of the fridge about 20 min before drinking. But I do that with all of them, so I don't think that's the difference.

Sounds to me like you've managed to clone Bud Light! :D
