I have lurked here for years, but never posted. Today, my dumbest brewing move breaks my silence.

So....I moved up to a 60 qt brew pot in order to do a large batch for my SWSBO's birthday. I was afraid my wort chiller would take too long since it is meant for a 20qt pot and I have been pushing it with my 40 qt. So, I had a genius idea....fill our large bathtub with ice and cold water. I filled it up some, sat the pot in the tub and realized i forgot my thermometer. I ran into the living room to grab my thermo and my phone rang, I answered it and got side tracked for only a couple of minutes. I ran back into the bathroom and the tub had filled above the top of the pot and wort was filling the tub....4 hours wasted!

I went ahead and poured what was in the pot into my pales to see what happens.

My bet is either infection or an extremely weak brew....we'll find out in a few weeks.

What stupid S*** have you done?

Welcome to the hobby,I`ve had my kitchen sink overflow several times
in my years. It`s all part of the fun.If you trust your water and you or
(SWSBO-she who sez- BRILLIANT, ogre,I guess-LOL-) kept the tub clean,
take it to fruition. The worst thing that can happen is you`ll have to
dump it in two months.Brew up another batch and enjoy the learning
process.I get sidetracked 3 times out of 10 when I brew,I guess that
is part of having a significant other around.Good luck with the batch.

    Cheers
