    crazy chemists! no wonder my chemistry professor always looked buzzed. no, we need chemists, or else we wouldn't have beer! but it is funny how the dude didn't think it was illegal to have opium in beer. West Coasters, should've known <-----that was a joke.

    Here in Maine it's illegal to possess any part of the opium poppy with the exception of the seeds. I don't know if it's the same there but it certainly seems like something he should have looked into before trying this.

    I read about that case a month ago when he got arrested.

    Opium poppies are generally illegal, but its one of those rarely enforced laws. My own mother has had these poppies growing in the backyard since i was a little kid. It depends on 'perceived intent'.

    Since this guy had the know-how to make morphine...the intent was there. he knew what he was doing and failed at 'playing dumb' when caught.
