Stinky Mead

    I just started a JAOM for my first mead a couple of days ago. It is stinking up my kitchen -- smells like someone is passing gas. Is this normal? I mean I enjoy the smell of beer fermenting, but this is very different from that.

    Yeah we call them RHINO FARTS! :D

    You get them alot with some yeasts and some fermentatbles...happens in Apfelwein and making lagers too...

    It's go away in a few days...

    Revvy, what are you doing in the mead forum?

    Crash - it should pass - in a couple days you should smell a nice gentle hint of orange peel and honey...

    thanks guys. My wife was ready to throw me and the mead out so I put it in the 1/2 bath with the fart fan running 24/7 until it subsided.
