i have been using a spray bottle that isn't labeled as food grade. should i order a food grade one off the internet or is this a overreaction?

pretty dumb question but just don't want to leach chemicals into beer ;)

If you are using a new clean bottle labeled as #2- HDPE, which is the same material as most gallon milk jugs, or #1 PET (the same as most 2-liter soda bottles) and it is clear (not colored with blue or green, for example), you will be fine. You can buy empty clean spray bottles from the hardware store, or even WalMart. Don't use soap, use one of the homebrewing cleansers, then sanitizer, before using it.

Making sure there is no residue in the pump from previous products is a bigger issue. If you bought it empty from WalMart and have been using it exclusively for this purpose, that would be the best scenario. Using a bottle previously used for fertilizer, sun-tan lotion, or hairspray would of course be a deal-breaker.

Just buy empty spray bottles that haven't been used for anything else. I bought mine from the dollar store.

Is it supposed to be for Olive Oli? Why was the food cooking selling it? My opinion would be to use it for star san, but empty it when not in use. Don't store anything in it, in case there is migration from the plastic.

I just had my ODA Food Safety inspection today. The only item he got me on was a 1 gallon pump up sprayer I use for Star San. It's not labeled food grade. Its milky white plastic.
