I was in the process of getting a starter going to use tomorrow.
    Wyeast 1214 Belgian Abbey Ale.
I messed up and spilled half of it (knocked it over). Other half is on the stirplate with two cups water and 2T DME. I wanted to brew 5 gallons tomorrow with a target OG of 1.052.
Can I do it? Local HBS is closed today and tomorrow.
    Thanks

I put your figures into the Brewers Friend starter calculator.

Starting with 50 billion cells, one-half of the yeast, if the yeast was only 1 day old.
    16 TBS per cup
1 cup DME approx 6 oz
    1 TBS = 0.4 oz
Starter size 0.5 liter, OG 1.015
Ending cell count = 66 billion cells (Braukaiser) 126 billion (white)

Check my numbers over, but it looks like you will need more DME in your starter. The starter should be based on the production date of the yeast.

    Thank You,
Went to the site as you recommended. First time there and I believe my numbers are similar to yours. I plan to increase to 1 liter and add 3.6 oz of DME. Problem is I do not have more than 1/4 cup DME. I will check with a neighbor and see what he has.

The calculator does not say anything about time. I am shooting for 24 hrs. Doesn't that make a difference? Can I use corn sugar instead of DME?

Most starters on a stir plate take 18 to 24 hours. You should be good for your starter.
Using sugar in a starter will not prepare the yeast for fermenting the complex sugars of an ale wort. Not recommended.
Are you brewing all grain or extract kit. You could borrow some DME or LME from the kit if you are doing an extract kit. The yeast starter is more important than the bit of loss in the boil.

You could also go ahead with your brew and pitch the yeast you have. Pitch another pack of yeast when you can get it, but still early in the fermentation.

    All grain.
    Neighbor was out too.
I will pitch my starter and add more on Wed. if I can get it.

    Thanks
