Has anyone tried the NorCal sparging assembly? I'm looking into getting the material to make my own. Thanks!

Are you planning to recirculate the mash through it?

    Just sparge over the grain.

I just started 5 gallon all grain. I just got a hold of three and plan on building an all grain system. It's going to take a while though.

I just lay my hose atop the grain bed, flood the grains by 1" or so and keep the water level. I don't understand sparge devices, dripping water onto water wouldn't seem to me to be of any advantage. I would appreciate enlightenment if I am missing something.

How do you heat the sparge water if it's coming straight from the hose?

I think it's the hose from his HLT.

I thought about getting that setup at first then figured it was just some stainless bling in my keg and more clean up so I went with Bobby M's weldless loc-line setup and it works great, much cheaper and cleans easy

I agree. I even had a 'Y' on my for a while but I sparge a such a low rate it wasn't really needed.

I have a 3-tier gravity system, with a valve and a silicon hose.

I do put a diverter on the end of the hose, but it never channels the grain, even without it.
