The last couple of brews I've just thrown the hop pellets right in during the boil. This creates a lot of hop particulate so I was hoping to reign that in a bit by using a homemade hop spider.

So I've got a question about this particular Black IPA recipe with 6 different hop additions: LINK The last two additions are at flame out. What would you do for those last additions? Would you toss them straight into the wort while cooling and just let the funnel filter catch most of that particulate while transferring to the fermentor... or would you toss them into the hop spider bag at flame out and just leave the bag in there while chilling? I haven't used the hop spider yet, so I guess I'm just wondering if I'll get as much hop flavor and aroma by using a bag to hold the hops as opposed to just tossing them straight in the wort?

If you have to take the spider out for wort chiller, into the kettle. If not, either way is fine, just make sure to give em a good stir for a while.

I'm making a quick release for the bag from the spider frame... the bag will have a draw string so for that final addition I could just toss the hops in the bag, release and tighten the bag and leave it in the wort while I stir and chill.

Went with the nylon paint strainer bag with elastic top. Fits nice and tight over the flange but easily removable if I want to just dunk the bag while chilling. I think that might work.

That looks good for about 2-3 ounces max. I just use a 5 gallon paint strainer bag clipped to the lip of the kettle. I did an IPA not too long ago where I used a second 5 gallon bag for half of the hops.

I've got 1-gallon and 5-gallon bags. Tomorrow I'm doing a 1-gallon black IPA so the 1-gallon bag will be more than sufficient. When I do my 5-gallon VandalEyes PA in 2 weeks the 5-gallon bag will be going on. With the elastic top it is super easy to swap one for the other.
