Wanted to know if it would be alright to secondary ferment in a 6.5 gallon bucket. I don't have carboys laying around so what i was going to do is sanitize my 3/8 food grade hose, tilt my fermenter a tad by putting a book underneath it the night before and put the hose at the very bottom of the second bucket and bareley turn on the spigot of the primary fermenter, would this be okay to do.

    Thanx

No, I wouldn't do that. You risk way too much with questionable benefit, in my opinion. I assume you'd do it with no splashing, but I'd still rack (siphon), not use the spigot. I think it's better to rack from above the yeast cake. The other issue is a great big headspace in an ale pail. During primary, that's fine because co2 is being produced in great quantity and helps to protect the beer from oxidation. But by moving finished beer to an ale pail would risk oxidation by such a wide headspace.

I don't use secondaries very often, but if I do I make sure to use the correct sized carboy and rack carefully to avoid oxygenation.
