I recently transferred my primary fermentation to a glass carboy for secondary fermentation. I noticed after about 4 hours that about the top 1 inch of the liquid was a lot darker in color (in the glass carboy) then the rest of the batch. Any ideas if this is a problem?

Pics would help, but I would venture to guess that you are just seeing the beer clearing. As yeast and particulates settle out, it clears from top to bottom and looks darker. If you just transferred, then anything that was already settling was mixed throughout the wort again. No sweat though, it will all settle down to the bottom, leaving you with a carboy mostly full of the darker color beer you see on the top right now and a small layer of yeast at the bottom. It's totally normal.

Just out of curiosity, did you move your primary around a lot right before transferring or let your siphon sit on the bottom of your primary during transfer? If so, then that's exactly what it sounds like, you stirred everything up.

Just yeast settling out and reflecting less light back. You're good! Kyle
