Saw several of these spiral looking white floaters in my mead. They are fairly rigid when you press on them. Mead tastes and smells fine. Im thinking its some kind of yeast byproduct. This is my first batch so I'm new to this.

Sorry for the crappy picture, the camera wouldn't focus close enough to see it.

I had something that looked (as best as I can tell) exactly like that an my beer.

In my case, it was a dirty faucet. I had been using kleen-plugs but switched to the black faucet covers. When I cleaned the faucets and switched back to kleen-plugs, the problem went away.

Our situations are different, though. I think it had something to do with the yeast, and possibly the lack of cleanliness or exposure to air.

LOL....no iPhone, no smart phone here....am a slave to my laptop ;) And, to stay on topic, I have no idea what that white thing might be, for the record

What the heck did you cut your little finger on? Where in the fermentation process are you? Are you in a white bucket? Had a customer come in the store weeks ago with white stuff in their beer, turned out they were using our Stir paddle in their buckets and smacking the crap out of the sides of their buckets with it..

    Cheers

"Spiral & fairly rigid," looks & sounds like a small bit of shaved plastic to me.

I agree..sounds like plastic..hope you sanitized the poo out of it..if you did you should be fine..worst case scenario if it doesnt clear out and settle is your going to have to maybe strain a whole batch through a coffee filter or something..what a pain in the bum.

Looks to me like a PVC shaving of some sorts. After you get out of that bucket I would check it over and look for scratches.

If you have done any plumbing work in your house recently, it may have come through that way.

You guys are geniuses and i am dumb. I used a paint stirrer on my cordless drill and i must have nicked the bucket. Thanks for pointing me towards the obvious!

At least it looks pretty now. Here are a few of the bottles. Traditional orange blossom from a local apiary in San Diego.
