Recipe suggestion help

    Most of my life I've much preferred malty and darker beers - porters, bocks, English brown ales. Lately I've been craving a beer with a bit more hops to it. My searching through styles has led me to believe I will be happy with an ESB.

    Based on this ( I know its not much) could you recommend a recipe for me? Thanks

    Fullers makes a good one. Maybe look for a clone of that?

    If you make an English bitter, don't use caramel malts.

    98% MO
    1% Aromatic
    1% Black patent

    Nugget .5oz 14% 60min
    EKG .75oz 5% 15min
    EKG .75oz 5% 10min
    Nugget .5oz 14% 5min

    Burton Ale WLP023 - ferment at 68F

    IMO, it works...

    Not using crystal malts is a fairly good suggestion to start. I'd go for 5-10% flaked maize as well to keep the body lighter and not too malty. Amber malt is a good alternative (~5%) for some nuttiness. If you want some caramel flavour the best way is to use invert sugar #2. Boiling flavour hops for 15/20m is a good move, as is giving it a small dry hop (~1oz) for a fresh aroma.
