Ran empty on Co2 after kegging!

I figured out my tank was empty just after plugging it to the keg, just after the transfer from the fermenter. Since there is mostly air over the beer in the keg, will my beer oxyde while I receive my tank refill (in 2 or 3 days)?

Since Co2 is heavier than air, should I purge the keg for letting the air goes out?

 

How many times were you able to purge it before the tank was done? Can you get co2 faster? I would. I think if you were only able to fill it once then I'd leave it as it is. Not too sure.

 

I was not able to fill.. Co2 tank was already empty.

 

It's possible it could oxidize then. Can you get co2 tomorrow? Someone who has ran into this may be more reassuring.

 

What about purging ?

 

I can't imagine it would much different than if you had left it in the fermenter for an extra few days.. As long as you don't shake it up or anything like that it shouldn't oxidize just sitting there in the short of time in any way you should be able to notice. Still something I'd try to avoid but I wouldn't sweat it too much

You could always prime with sugar and naturally carb. The yeast should eat any oxygen that remains.

I would do this versus gambling a whole batch. Also, get another tank when you can. I always run out at the worst time and my spare has saved my beer a few times.

Even a paintball tank would work, if you don't want to go full size; but by the time you get a regulator...it woulf only be a few more bucks for a 2.5 pound steel tank.

I am trying to get the refill ASAP. Meanwhile, I think I'll chillout a bit about it.. Since I dumped the beer straight from the primary, what is ongoing right now is mostly a secondary or a condition stage.

Not that bad I think..
