Proto-wit bier ???

Does someone know what is Proto-wit bier? and how is it different from Belgium Wit?

 

Firstly, it's "Belgian" wit, not Belgium Wit.

I've never heard of a "Proto" wit.

 

Proto-wit is a silly moniker, but most likely means it has some tartness from lacto. The original wits were made in less-than-sanitary brew houses.

 

That makes sense. Sorry about the awful typo. I needed the history behind proto-wit bier. At first I thought the history of the first witbier, cause the proto stuff didn't add up. So, I went with just that and found out that they were made from grains available at the time (unmalted wheat, malted barley and some oats, not mainly wheat like weissbier), fermented naturally with wild yeast (there goes your lacto too!) and instead of hops gruit was used. I would imagine that those first witbiers were spicy, funky, brews. Thanks for the help!
