    hi all!

I recently was gifted the Bayou SP10 propane burner, and I was wondering if I could use the 16.4oz propane bottles with it. I know I should get a full sized tank but I have some of the small bottles left over from a camping trip last month and would like to use them up if possible.

If you can find an adapter to go from the tank to the hose on the
burner it might be possible. You really need a 20 lb tank though.
If you manage to make it work you could maybe make some eggs
and sausage with a 1 pound tank and then it would be empty.

    Cheers

a friend severely overestimated the amount of propane we'd need, so I have about 5 leftover bottles.

I'll look around for an adapter! thanks!

I wouldn't waste my money on an adapter. You have a total of 5 lbs of propane. That is less than $5 worth of gas.

I have never tried to operate a 60,000 btu burner off of a 1 lb bottle but I have tried an 80,000 btu heater on a 20 lb propane tank. It took about 5 minutes for the tank to freeze. I bet that the little 1 pounders will freeze faster than that trying to supply gas to your burner.

I don't think 5 bottle will be enough to do even one 5gal batch of beer. And if it was enough you'd be switching bottles every 15-20mins, I'd imagine you'd blow through 2 just getting the water up to a boil.
Plus the adapter will be hard to find, most of the ones I see are designed to go from a burner that uses a 16oz tank to mate to a 20lbs tank. I've never seen one for the other way around. Just save them and use the right tank, I have like 8 of those bottles in my garage and I use them for my plumber's torch or for my lanterns. They are convenient to have around but the idea of trying to use them to brew beer makes me exhausted just thinking about it.

Yep. And more expense than it's worth.
