Plastic Conical Fermenter Lid Fix

We had been having so many issues with the stock lids on our plastic conical fermenters that we decided it was time to do something about it. This will work for any fermenter with the standard 12" lid. Far better than just buying a gasket!

We started by using a multi-tool to cut out the cumbersome inner ring that seems to serve no real purpose. The then cut a lid out of cutting board plastic we got from a local plastic shop. The rest is just stainless carriage bolts siliconed in place and an assortment of wingnuts and such.

I wish I had time to give a step by step but it really isn't very complicated and life is busy! I will be happy to answer any questions.

good idea, i have a mini brew that is being shipped (arrival tomorrow i hope) is this a common problem with them or just something u tried.

 

How much to make me a lid?

Also, I have the same tank, and what I did was cut that same inner step out like you did, then applied a strip of weather stripping to the lid and then to the top of the conical and use budgie cords to hold it in place. Air tight and easy open and close.

 

I think the mini-brew is it's own system and they likely engineered this problem out of it from the start.

Cutting that inner step out is crucial. It is just such a pain in the ass to clean around! Sounds like you came up with a similar solution 007. If you private message me I can get you in touch with my father who would probably make you a lid. They are pretty awesome and can be used with all the larger versions of conical fermenters if you decide to upgrade- they all use the same non-sealing lids.

 

Does it hold pressure?
