I just started my first real batch yesterday. I opened my fermenting chamber today and there is a nice layer of foam so its definitely working. however the top of the bubbler seemed to be pushed up a bit and there weren't any bubbles coming out of the airlock.
I read through some of the forums and realize that this may be a common problem. My question is this: as long as the lid stays somewhat one, and the BMB stays in the fermenting chamber will the brew be ok? I had to push it back down to seal today when i checked on it.
Its a Chinook Red Ale from NB and it is in a chest freezer with a temperature controller.
    thanks in advance,
    Rob

I've had the same problem with mine, but since I have a strap to aid carrying it, I just put a bungee cord on the top to hold it in place. As long as there is foam on the top, I think your beer will be fine.
    Have fun and keep brewing!

Thanks, I will make sure I rig up a bungee before my next brew.

During the initial part of the fermentation when lots of CO2 is being produced and you can see the krausen and everything is stirred up in the fermeter your lid could come completly off without causing you any problems. Some brewers don't even have a lid for their fermenters. Do a search for open fermentation for pictures of this.

Most of the time I get some bubbles from the airlock but fairly often I don't but every time it makes beer.

I was never able to get the normal lids to seal, they have a new style that you push in that worked for me, however if you get one, there is a silicone gasket that you need to flip upside down before these actually seal. Having said that. The seal it is leaking around is too small for any bad things to get into the beer the co2 pressure will keep oxy. out. the bubbles while we all like them should not be used to tell when secondary or bottle(I don't secondary). I made many good beers in plastic non bubbling big mouths before I moved to stainless
