New wort cooler questions

I had a 10' 3/8 coil of copper seemed like it took my new ran hour to cook I recently bought 25' of half inch I was just wandering if it would cool quicker and how long is to long to chill the wort

 

Wow must be drunk lol the 3/8 seemed like it had to run for an hour +

 

So I think I read your question correctly
And the answer is, it depends.
Chilling water temp, design, stirring, wort volume, etc all play into it. But, will be much faster, so RDWHAHB

I don't think there is to long. People on here leave it overnight before they pitch yeast. I personally like it to cool rather quickly. I made a 25' 3/8" chiller that cools down to 70 in about twenty minutes, so I think 1/2" would be even faster than that.

 

Something along the lines of it....I'm going to take it to work n fab it up so the lid will shut properly with it in there

IMO it is. Less time exposed to air.

Keep in mind is all about surface area. I have a 25' X 3/8" CFC and I can cool down to 60-65 deg. F in 20 or so min with 60 deg. F water.

For my CFC, the wort is able to dissipate the heat real easy b/c of the 3/4" hose I have around it. The cooling hose has a much higher thermal mass than the small 3/8" wort line slowing more of the wort to cool quickly.

But for an Emission, I think your going good with the 1/2" tube. The "cooling" water will be in the tube and it will be able to carry more heat, hight thermal mass the a 3/8", due to the extra volume of water in the 1/2.

To make it even better, you could add more tubing and make an additional coil in the center. But that may be a bit Over Engineered!
