New Brewer

Hey all found this forum off the interwebz and lurked for all of 5 minutes:rockin:

I'm a wounded soldier on my way out the door and I need more hobbies. So I've been intrested in home brewing for a year or so. Being that I'm an alot of meds I'm very limited on the amount of beer I can drink no big deal as I didn't want to brew large amounts of beer anyways as I'm the sole drinker of the house.

So I'm wondering what you guys and gals suggest for small batch brewing ( I've gone over the mr beer thread and wow I dunno)

I guess enough beer for a 6 or 12 pack of bottles if that is even possible if not and I have to settle for the bigger process so be it but I would really like to avoid that if possible.

 

I'm a stove top BIAB Brewer and I make 3 gallon batches. After trunk loss and loss to the fermenter I end up with a little over two twelve packs. More than enough for me being as I'm pretty much the only drinker in my house.

You can brew in small batches with kits other than Mr Beer. I would go to a brew shop though and buy the supplies through them and make your own batches as strong or weak as you like instead of depending on a kit.

Myself I brew low gravity beers simply because I do not want to end up drunk all the time. Perhaps something along those lines would help.

If you do go that route try beer smith out. It is a free trial program that you can specify batch size and all different sorts of things.

OP - welcome to the board and thanks for your service. Hopefully the VA is takin' care of you. I'm a 24+ yr retired AF guy, and been brewing for a long time. If you have the means, 5G batches are the way to go. Lots of resources and helpful people here.

Any particular 5 gal kits or something I should look into?

 

You'll get lots of opinions - most kits out there are pretty good. Look for a kit that has everything you need to brew a complete batch. I'm partial to the Coopers DIY kit (literally has everything including bottles), but Midwest has some good deals and there are others.

Key is to study up and just go for it.

You'll be happy you did.
