I'm gonna be writing a weekly beer review for a newspaper, and I want to write it under a false name, but I'm not coming up with any excellent 'beer' names that I could use... help me out with some thoughts please :)

    *** UPDATE ****

I no longer need a pseudonym... I will be writing under my real name...

How about Brutus ("brew-tus")? Lindy Hop (this will be the name of a future IPA)?

    I P Stout? :p

Seriously, how about M G Porter. Not only a play on Mel Gibson's character from Payback, but also A style of beer. :D

Another +1 for Porter Brown and Steve Urquell. My suggestions would be:
    Ogden Zymurgy
Samuel Smith - just cause it's good beer, and a tribute

    Samuel Simcoe
    Marris Otter
    Chris Krausen

    Ron Burgandy?

I like Chris Krausen the best out of mine - has a nice ring to it. Porter Brown and Steve Urquell are great ideas as well.

Hm. I'm wondering why the pseudonym. Anything I write gets my name attached to it. I'm proud of my name and my writing.

    [shrug]

    YMMV.

    Cheerfully,

I thought about this myself for quite a while. I have no goals of becoming a published writer. I'm a photographer. The reason I want to use a pseudonym is because I'm a photographer for the newspaper that wants me to write this weekly column on beer... My photography for this paper is mainly sports, which means I spend a lot of time in the high schools around my county and surrounding counties.

"Porter Brown" is looking good so far :)

I'd suggest staying away from names that are obviously fake, but ones that have beer-related meanings if you know your stuff are nice (I like Chris Krausen the best so far).

As a newspaper man myself, I second Bob. You ought to be proud of what you write, and also be held accountable for it under your real name. Spending time at high schools and writing about beer having nothing to do with each other.

I spend a lot of time at high schools and colleges, too, as a sports writer. I brew and most people I am in contact with know it.

Put your own name on it. :)

I understand this thought completely and I'll definitely consider it. If I go this route, I'll just need to come up with a catchy title for the weekly column.

I'm completely ripping this off from our bi-weekly beer column, but why not go with 'The Beer Snob?' Simple and something everybody can understand.

Name of your first pet and the street you grew up on. That's your Beer Reviewer name ... or is that your porn star name. I always get those two confused.

Porter Brown, or Amber Stout (it IS a psuedonym - doesn't have to be same-gender...). But I'd have to +1 using your own name...

Oh well... the newspaper nixed the pseudonym idea and they want to run my mug shot with the reviews... lol... I'm still not sure what we're gonna call the review column yet, but I gotta get started on it...

<= heads off to his favorite beer & wine shop to stock the to-do list...

What is the name of the paper?

I would avoid putting 'snob' in the column title, that term is off-putting to many.

How about something like 'The weekly watch: what's new with the worlds brew' ???

The paper is a weekly entertainment paper called "The SuperBuzz" that comes out on Thursdays as part of our local paper (Hickory Daily Record) in Hickory, North Carolina.
