What is the recommended dose for a 5 gallon batch? 4-8oz? Also, when should I add it to the boil?

If I'm using it at all, i'll generally do about 4oz at 15 min left. The amt being used for me is dependent on the recipe and the body I'm going for.

The correct answer would depend on the style of beer and the ingredients- as for some beers the right answer is "none" and for some the answer is "1/2 pound".

To give an analogy, on a cooking forum if you asked, "how much oregano should I add?", the answers would be "for what?". Without knowing what you're making, no one can give you an answer.

The only time I've ever used malto dextrine is when I brew with honey. Honey will dry and thin out the beer and I find the malto dextrine will add back in the sweetness and body the honey takes out.
