Keazer Tip: PC Fan 12v

My keazer is in a sunroom without AC and I noticed that on warm days there had been up to a 12 degree differential in temperature from the top to bottom of my keazer.

Here is a very easy DIY that has cut the temperature differential by more than half. Rather than the entire top layer being warmer, now the only warm spot is in the opposite corner from the fan. I am also getting the added benefit of cooling the taps as the are directly in the airflow.

What you need:
1) 12 volt DC wall-wart. Most of us likely have one of these around the house left over from defunct gadgets or rechargeable flashlight.

2) 12 volt PC Fan. Borrow one from your old defunct PC or buy online. I got this 120mm fan on amazon for about $8. Mine draws less than 4W of power.

MacGyver the wires as needed to power the fan.

Fans need airflow. Not easily seen in photo mine is raised above the floor about an inch and a half by installing screws in the corner mounting holes that now serve as legs.

Not only will this help keep the keezer more consistent on temperature, but it will also help with condensation...a little.

 

I don't have any condensation problems in the summer (warm, dry California summers) but in the winter...it positively drips every where.

I may try the fan trick. I have an extra one from my stirplate.

 

Yep, great stuff H22W - been doing this for years and years. Highly recommend.
Did this one year when I couldn't get beer out of my taps - turns out the bottom of the beer had actually frozen! This keeps the temperature stratification to a minimum and beer temps nice and even throughout the keezer.

I glued a couple hard-drive magnets to the sides of my fans and just stuck the unit against the wall in an open area. (yep - McGyvered two together). An Eva-Dry re-chargeable (here) is a good investment too.
