About 12 days into my primary fermentation my two year old managed to wrestle the air lock free of the stopper. The stopper remained in place in the throat of the carboy. It remained like this from anywhere from 1 to 24 hours. When I discovered it, I promptly replaced the airlock and refilled it with sanitizer. Does anyone anticipate any major problems? The beer is a Brewer's Best Dunkelwiesen kit.

The only problem would be with how many crayons your 2 year old put in the carboy... :fro:

You should be fine. My dog licked mine off after active ferment and it was off for a few days. My big enemy is fruit flies... that is the most likely contaminant.

relax. your beer will be as good as you made it!

You will be fine, just re-sanitize it and plug it back in the stopper:)

+1 if you have a lot of fruit flies/gnats then you might have an issue. They're VERY attracted to fermenting beer. Otherwise, I wouldn't sweat it.

And if you get lots of gnats or fruit flies, simply declare them as an adjunct and move on.
