Sounds to me like you haven't tried the right lager yet. There are many that are inferior but there are also many that are mighty good.

I love a good bock.

Not all lagers suck, but I definitely drink less of them, by preference, than ales.

There are some awesome lagers out there. Drink a few Dopplebocks and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I like to drink them but not a big fan of brewing them.

Seems to me that if you don't know what's a lager or not, you probably don't know whether they all suck or not. If all you think of as a lager is BMC then you are missing out on some awesome beers.

Have you ever tried a Vienna Lager, or a Mai Bock? Or are you just talking about light lagers like BMC? Or a schwartzbier?

And have you ever tried a craft/micro brewed lager? Or a a re-release of a pre 1980's recipe lager before all the homogenization and corporate mergers like the re-release of Stroh's and 1970's Schlitz re-release, or a regional one that's stayed around and separate like Yuenglings?

There's a ton of lagers out there that are pretty awesome.

So yeah I'd have to say if you can't find one lager style that you like, it is probably just you. ;)

I agree in some ways but its more of a rejection of malt forward beers for me. I grew up drinking yuengling tradition lager and currently I struggle to stomach it. Of course in another year and my tastes may change. In any case I'm glad to have the Johnson controller which leaves my lagering options open year round. I'll probably do one or two this year for those that can't take the high ibu beers that the wife and I have come to love.
