I have been given 3lbs of fresh, dried leaf hops, the problem is they are a mix of Magnum and Cascade have absolutely no idea of the ratio I have mixed them very well to make sure I have even distribution so at least I can repeat something if it works, my problem is what do I do with them?? use them for both bitter and aroma, use them for bitter and azacca for aroma(just happen to have a couple of ozs)?? I have just finished building the HLT for my herms system and I would like to brew this weekend so I am opened to suggestions, any style, I drink them all

Could just do a simple pale ale and use nothing but the leaf hops? Small bittering charge then go heavy in the last ten minutes, toss in the azacca at flameout.

I was thinking something along those lines, Magnum won't hurt late but wonder if cascade during bitter would leave harsh flavors, guess I'll find out :)

Don't think it would cause a problem, Ive used small amounts of cascade at 60 minutes before. It was just what i had on hand.

bittering is bittering. Hop flavor doesn't seem to matter much at all - look up brulosophy's beerxperiments on this topic. Nobody can tell.

Magnum will dominate bittering anyways with high alphas. Cascade will dominate aroma from late editions.

I would say, brew an American Pale Ale for sure. Maybe some IPAs - depending on what you like, I would add different dry hops to enhance citrus aroma.

Of course you can always use it for bittering any time (which is a waste of these hops, but you can). So any bittering, and aroma for american style beers.

    Ok,
Yesterday was the first brew day on my home made herms system with the mystery (magnum cascade mix)hops and the rest were things I had on hand. here is the final recipe
    11 gal batch
    20 lbs American 2row
    3 lbs vienna malt
    1 lb carapils
    8 oz. of Crystal 40

1 oz mystery hops at 60
1 oz mystery hops @ 25 (oops moment)
    3 oz mystery hops @ 10
    3 oz Azacca (20 min swirling hop rest @ 140f )
2 oz mystery hop (2weeks dry hop ??? debating this one)
    2 litre WLP 301 starter

1.062 SG little low but good for first herms run ever (wort was super clear)
    fingers crossed
