I have always used hop pellets but have never put them in a bag to strain them out, is that necessary or do the pellets just dissolve in the wort and a hop bag would be useless? Just curious.

    Thanks.

Fine mesh bags reduce the trub that'll be found in the primary. So does whirlpooling with an IC so it's your choice.

Pellets do leave noticeable hop sludge after the boil. They don't completely dissolve in the beer. I use a nylon paint strainer bag hanging over my boil kettle and throw the hops in there. Something I learned on this forum.
