You got good taste, the only thing missing is some Blind Guardian and Kamelot. Probably should add Demons & Wizards too, and let's not forget the perfect band for brewing... Alestorm.

In fact any sort of power metal is a good choice.

Wendy O. was from my hometown.

I listen to whatever comes on the shuffle. usually It's a trip, it's got a funky beat, and I can really bug out to it.

    Or Radio Paradise.

About a year ago I bought a nice old turntable and tuner and have started collecting some of my favorite jazz albums on vinyl. Ever since, I have been listening to these albums whenever I brew.

Last batch: Sellis White/John Coltrane, A love Supreme

+1 on something different every time. I generally listen to classic rock or country. I like to pair up with the Redwings and listen to the hockey game when possible. Last session was full tour of my Sinatra collection, my favorite being Live at the Sands.

I usually don't listen to music...but I'll try next time. Assume DMB since I have about 30GB worth on my hard drive.

Glenn plays it so damn fast you would be looking for the next CD/album before the water reached boiling!

As other have said, I prefer live shows when brewing...they add to the creative vibe of the day.

    Probably a show by:
    The Dead
Phish (usually listen to a show with bathtub gin for some reason)
    Ratdog
    The Roots

If I was going to listen to Phish while brewing, I would chose the longest version of Reba I could possibly find, and go with that. That songs just seems to go right along with brew day.

"Reba dipped the ladle, for a taste of her creation, and she learned that what she made would be the finest in the nation..."

Has anyone ever heard of Pandora.com. Its an online radio, all you have to do once you sign up is type in an artists name and it plays that artist's music as well as related musicians. Its sweet! I have a Dead station and it plays all dead, phish, Bob & Ratdog, Phil, ect. I'll put that on and listin all brew-day-long! In 6hrs it never repeated a song.

I celebrate their entire catalog! But while brewing? I don't know....New Order I guess, but I don't think I could combine Joy Division with a joyful activity like brewing.

last brew day, I streamed the Yes 35th Anniversary Concert Video from netflix and played it through the sound system.

Roundabout, performed as a Chicago Blues Shuffle made the sparge quite entertaining. :)

Other times -- it's itunes going random.
Everything from Mylie Cyrus to Coheed and Cambria to Straight Line Stitch.

My ipod/Itunes is evil and must be destroyed.

interesting thread, i guess i wasn't too surprised to see so many dead and phish fans... i don't listen to dead much anymore, but listened to them exclusively at one point... a ton of flogging molly fans too... i guess it goes with beer.

i usually listen to 100.3 THE BUS, that station is all over the map, a lot in the 80s which is nostalgic for me.

if i put on music myself, it is usually:

old school country: hank sr., old george jones, lefty, ray price, etc.

old school bluegrass: bill monroe, stanleys, mac martin, don reno, etc.

    country: keith whitley

but i love all music (even country and rap).

    Social Distortion
    Ramones
    The Clash

Since I usually brew in the morning, I start out with some live Wilco or My Morning Jacket, move on to some Pearl Jam, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Gomez or Bob Dylan, finish up with some Black Angels or Ween, then sit down with a celebratory homebrew with anything I feel like listening to. :D

This thread makes me feel old. Never heard of many of those bands...
I guess to most of you I AM old.

Put me down for some smooth contemporary jazz
    or some 70's rock.

    born in the 50's.....

I brew to one song, and one song only, lady humps by the black eyed peas...just kidding.

+1 on the vinyl you can find so many awesome albums that never made it to cd. I usually rock Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton (hooked on money and cigarettes), Foghat, ZZ Top, Grand Funk Live, and Ozark Mountain Daredevils!

I'm quite sure I'd claw out my own eyes from their sockets if forced to do that. Actually, a more productive use of that time would be driving pencils into my ears using only my fists.

It's funny, I'm a hard-rock person for the most part, but I have a tendency to listen to classical or blues when I do anything brewing-related.

My last brew day consisted of:

    Old Crow Medicine Show
    Yonder Mountain String Band
    Felice Brothers
Missy Raines and the New Hip
    Sam Bush Band

Nothing better than when friends stop by with instruments and we have some back porch beer jammin.
