Help troubleshooting yeast floating on top

    I kegged my brew today and had a weird case of yeast floating on the top. I lost around a gallon because I was unable to get clear beer. I used dry yeast and my guess is that I pitched after I aerated and it was foamy and some of the yeast flocculated in the foam. I attached a pic. Thanks!

    Why is it almost empty? Did you add the yeast first and then the wort?

    What yeast did you use? Are you sure your fermentation was complete?

    I believe this is their nearly empty fermenter after racking to the keg (i.e. post fermentation).

    I'm fairly certain that would be Trub (pronounced Troob) and not visible yeast.

    Next time you can either leave it in the fermenter until the yeast (and anything else) settles out or cold crash before kegging to force it to settle out faster.

    It was floating on the top when the fermenter was full. 3 weeks in the fermenter hit target OG. I think cold crashing would have taken care of this.
