geltain

i have heard you can use geltan in your beer to clear it. I also read this in my beer book. has anyone tried this??? if you want long enough will the beer clear by itself???? i always use irsh moss. which is better irish moss or geltain???

 

I'm not the most educated person but I can spell gelatin correctly. And I don't write a bunch of question marks even when I am really, really drunk. I assume everyone on this board is drunk and that's all good. But if you can't spell while drunk then you got a problem. Congrats on reading a book on brewing; something I have never done nor ever will do.

Irish moss is a kettle fining and gelatin is used after fermentation to clear up finished beer faster. They work differently and you can use both.

Do some more research on each there are plenty of good threads..

 

YOU seem to have the problem(s)!

 

First of all, just because we brew doesn't mean we are always drunk. That isn't why we brew.

Secondly, if you are going to bash someone for bad grammar you might want to check your grammar first. It is not proper English to start a sentence with a conjunction which you did twice. Plus, it should be "you have a problem" not "you got a problem".

Back on topic, gelatin has been used by many people to clear beer and it works well. I like adding Irish moss to the kettle 10 minutes before the end of the boil. I also cold crash which works very well. Gelatin does work, I just like other ways better. Leaving your beer sit longer will definitely help clear it up too

 

Quick warning: if you use a ton of gelatin, you won't be able to get the beer out of the bottle.
