I'd like to make a sweet keggle out of it (50L) but it's full. Just acquired it from someone's alley (craigslist free section). The very sad part is it's expired, born on date is Feb 2005.

How do I get all the beer out? I don't have a euro tap. I'm tempted to take a screwdriver to it (visions of Dumb and Dumber ketchup and mustard scene comes to mind). This may be my only option but I thought I would solicit more entertaining ideas.

I just tonight scored a 15.5 gallon keg off CL. It is about 1/4 full.

Is there any reason I couldn't just cut the circle out of the top and pour the beer out?

    Am I missing something?

Jesus, GOD, no! Do *NOT* remove the center spear without depressurizing the keg.

Just hammer a nail through a spot on the top of the keg where it will be removed during the cutout process. The spray of funky Guinness shouldn't be too bad unless the keg is really full, but you can minimize it by putting a towel around the nail as you're puncturing, then covering the hole as you withdrawn the nail.

Once the pressure has been vented, cut by whatever method you want, and empty the keg through the opening. It'll be stinky during the cutting process, but you did get the thing for free. ;)

You could always go to a place that sells Guiness in the keg and rent a tap. I cannot imagine they will ask more than just the deposit. Then you can safely release the pressure and remove the funky beer without making a mess.

No worries MoRoToRiUm. It's just that that process assumes that you have an empty or almost-empty keg.

As long as you depreassurize before going for the snap ring you're good. (Re reading my earlier post I apologize if I seemed rude, I had no intention to). Hope it works out!

Hey Mo, you tried to help. If no one wants to listen... Well, OP please take video when you try your "other" methods. ;) Then post it here. :ban:

Mo, the link I referenced is the type of keg I have. The videos you linked to show a common keg with a clip/snap ring. Mine doesn't have a clip. I don't know if it has anything to do with the fact mine is a 50L keg. You'll see in the photos I linked to that there is no clip to remove. The inside locking mechanism is screwed in holding everything in. So far I haven't seen/read anyone be able to remove this. Sounds like there is an additional piece keeping it from being removed after you unscrew the main part.

I can get the pressure out, even if its just with a screwdriver to nail. I was hoping to remove the center post before I cut the top off.

    Thanks all.

    Why hasn't someone suggested this?

Rent a tap and then drink the guiness. Report back to us on the taste.

I was able to get this one off. I used a chisel and hammer and just kept driving it in a counterclockwise direction. It took quite a bit of force to get it started but eventually it will move.

I like the idea of the nail and hammer.

Shake it up real good and make sure you have at least 3 camera angles.
