Trying my hand at making my own recipe for the first time and wanted to see what others think. This is my idea for an American IPA; I have a 1 gallon batch about ready to bottle that I did linear scaling with, and if it goes well I'd like to do a full 5 gallon batch. My recipe info is based on Brewer's Friend estimates. Let me know your thoughts!

    Grain Bill
10 lb United Kingdom - Maris Otter Pale
    1.25 lb Flaked Oats
    2.5 lb American - Vienna
    0.25 lb American - Carapils

    Hops
1 oz Simcoe Pellet Boil 60 min
0.5 oz Amarillo Pellet Boil 30 min
    0.5 oz Simcoe Pellet Flameout
    0.5 oz Amarillo Pellet Flameout
1 oz Simcoe Pellet Dry Hop 7 days
1 oz Amarillo Pellet Dry Hop 7 days

    Yeast
    Wyeast 1272

    Limes? What limes?

Looks good. Personally, I wouldn't sit on dry hops that long. I'd also switch out that bittering charge of Simcoe for something cheap and clean, like Magnum.

I agree and you probably wont need the carapils since the oats you have now will give you the same result

Maybe a splash of crystal malt, too?

Will swapping the bittering charge with magnum affect flavor much? I was shooting for a piney/fruity profile but I'm all for saving a little bit of money if the difference is negligible.

Leaving the carapils out due to the oats makes sense... Would you recommend swapping that .25lb for a crystal malt?

    Thanks!

the bittering hop does not have any flavor, just match the ibu, adding crystal is a good idea depending on the type, less for dark more for lighter so say for instance C40 try 1/2 pound, it adds a malt sweet flavor so you decide

Like Ozark said, you aren't getting any flavor, per se, with the bittering charge.

The crystal malt is a good idea. The amount and lovibond is at your discretion. I usually go between .25-.75 for a five gallon batch. I personally like the lighter crystal malts, something between C10 and C40.

You can also save a little more money by going with a dry yeast like US-05. It is nice and clean, and perfect for that style of beer. It's also half the price of liquid.

Yea I second on the crystal and dropping carapils since you have the oats. 5% crystal 40 will give a bit of color and sweetness.

Neutral high bitter hops at 60min will only really give you bitterness. They normally cheaper and you can use less since AA normally higher.

I would also move the 30min to 15min. 30min gives more bitterness and less flavour. 60 min covers your bitterness. Use a ibu calculator.

So simcoe and amirillo 0.5oz each at 15min. Then what you have at flameout and dryhopping.
