First time brewer fermentation question

    I ordered caribou slobber and wit bier extract kits from Northern brewer. I will be out of town for 6 weeks because of work will it hurt my beer to sit in primary for six weeks and bottle it as soon as I get home

    It should be fine as long as it doesn't get hot. I often leave it that long.

    If you can, keep good temperature control for the first several days at least.

    This is crucial to good beer. Keep the temperature at the low end of the yeast's preferred range as it races through the easy sugars, perhaps 3 to 5 days. From then on your beer can sit at room temp without any off flavors developing. 6 weeks is not a problem. 6 MONTHS may not be a problem. 6 Years may be.

    Brown ales just keep getting better after a few weeks.

    I left my amber in primary at 70F for two months and it's one of the best things I've ever made.

    I've used Nottingham at 59 and stand by my statement that it's best to use the yeasts near the bottom of their range. Very clean ferments.
