Just brewed my first batch and things were going moderately well, with some challenges (to be expected). Poured my wort from the kettle to the primary and as I was stirring to aerate, Pavlov's response kicked in and I watched helplessly as a spot of drool fell from my lip to the primary fermentor. Guessing I'm not the first person to ever do this. Also guessing the batch is toast. Anyone with similar experience? Oh well....glad I started with an inexpensive kit.

HA! It will likely be just fine, but don't share it with anyone! Unless you don't like them!

LOL! Guess I'm being a little paranoid - after reading Palmer's book I thought if water dripping from your hands can contaminate a batch, then drool from my mouth can only be worse. :D Guess we'll see what happens.

Yes, it can definitely contaminate it... I believe lacto and pedio are heavily present. But it doesn't guarantee that your brew is ruined, so it's best to just wait it out.

What kind of beer is it?

Germs from your hands are far worse than from your saliva. One medical fact comes to mind: you are more likely to get sick from shaking hands with someone than kissing them. Saliva has an effect of sealing in germs.
I think your beer will be fine. Mention only that there is a secret ingredient. Just enjoy.

Look at it this way, you have already done the hard work, all you would additionally be out now is time. Let it ride, check it in a few weeks and then decide to keep or dump. If there is any damage, it's been done and can't be changed, if not, no big deal and you wouldn't want to waste good beer!

If I were you, i'd be worrying less about the beer and more about why i'm drooling.

Fact, I once stuck my arm bicep deep into a bucket of wort after pitching the yeast because I accidentally dropped something into it while putting the lid on.

Fact two: Everyone says it was my best beer.

I have sense debated the merits of sticking my arm into ever beer I brew.

Are you a dog? If you are a dog then your beer will be fine. I hear a dogs mouth has less germs than a human mouth. I believe it also has some antiseptic qualities. Just tell your friends that you brewed a style of chicha...if you are not canine.

if beer was ruined by drooling into it, i wouldn't have finished a batch yet!

in reality, i'm guessing that if you are concerned about drool ruining your beer, that your sanitation practices are very good. so congrats!

Just call it "Dawg Drool PA". When asked why, say you just like the name. :D On another note, you may have a one-of-a-kind sour beer in the end. Either way sounds win-win to me (if it were my drool).

Figured I should post a follow up, now that the beer has been kegged. All that worry for nothing - Slobber Knocker Pale turned out to be alright. :p Kegged it a week ago, have been having tasters every few days. Seems to get better and better each time I try it.
