First Brew (Final Product)

    So we just finished bottling the English Bitter I started about three weeks ago, i started of with what was supposedly an Original Gravity of 1.023 but I think I read it wrong. because it tastes stronger and ended up with a Final Gravity of 1.009 Give or take a .001. but i was sceptical at the beginning because i did mess it up as i said in my post in the beginners section http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/off-good-start-297632/ but as I went along it turned out half decent. we racked it over, and let it sit for another week or so, and just finished bottling yesterday. it has a wonderful strong taste of malt to it. we mixed about 0.5 KG of priming sugar into it. and capped it using old beer bottles that were very well cleaned. we hit 5 dozen and one bottle out of 21L at the end point. so i've been using that one bottle for carbonation testing (shaking the S*&% out of it to see the bubbles form) there's a little bit of sediment in the bottom but nothing to big. Other than that. it turned out pretty good. Currently have a lager in the carboy and a Stout we started today in the prim fermenter, ill post the album here below. http://imageshack.us/g/163/1000780m.jpg/

    I hope .5 kg priming sugar is a mistype. Thats more than a pound. Typical amounts are around 5 oz. If it's not a typo, you have bottlebombs on their way. Be super careful.

    ****, let me rephrase that. 500g bag of priming sugar dumped into the wart, and slightly stirred. none have blown up yet so no bombs. i also have them under a computer desk covered with a blanket just in case haha.

    You primed with 17 oz of sugar then?

    No kidding - this is dangerous. That amount of sugar will give you around 7 volumes of CO2. Longnecks can handle 4-ish volumes. Are you using glass bottles?

    Was it all dissloved or was there a ton of sugar at rhyme bottom of the bottling bucket?

    pretty sure all dissolved, and there haven't been one explode yet. im going to pop one here now to see if its a big pop. but other than that. it was also left for about 20 minutes before bottling

    just finished opening two. barely any pop, i cracked one and it sucked in some air and that was about it hardly any carbonation at all

    How long have they been conditioning? You may need to stop the carbonaton process. I believe you can do tis by refridgeratimg which you may not want to try or open the bottles and add some more yeast. Dont qoute me maybe someone else can chime in here.

    this will be the 2nd full day conditioning, and i did have one refrigerated and it was less carbonated then the warm one. in a few days ill try another

    I had put some in the fridge too early once and they didn't complete carbonation all I had to do to get them to finish was, take them out and put them in a 65-75 degree room for about 2 weeks. After that I put them back in the fridge and everything was golden. Pop, ahhh good beer.

    my 5 dozen are under my desk the temp ranges from 73 to 80 F

    Make sure there's something solid between you and them when you're using your desk. If you used that much sugar, you WILL have bombs. It's only a matter of time. That stuff is no joke either. High-speed glass can and has killed.

    Yeah there's a piece of wood between me and my bed. also I covered them with a blanket aswell

    I just opened a bottle then, almost perfect carbonation. the pop was a little big, as in comparison to a brewery bottle but no biggy. i'm hoping they are done carbonated or pretty damn near or i will have a bomb. for the actual beer it needs more carbonation/fizz to it. its too soft of a fizz i like it to be crisp.

    how is the residual sweetnes?

    Dude i would put them some where far far way! 6 days and you have "almost" good carbination, still 2 weeks to go! ..........(feeeeeeeeeeew ("whisiling sound like a mortar")).........booom!!
    that is almost 5x the regular amount of suger!!

    what do you mean by residual sweetnes. and yeah im periodically going to open one every 3 days or so. and if it gets too bad. pop the whole lot then recap, and hopefully everything will work out.

    What's that bottle bomb picture url? I may be posting in that very soon lol

    Well is it dry, sweet?, very sweet?, fruity? (a wage idee of sugers left in the brew)

    So when i put one in the fridge and chill it and open it. It has no carbonation but i take a warm one and its perfect
