First 24hr of fermentation

I finished my first batch late afternoon and im not going to lie was watching that airlock everytime i passed to check on it..i would even stare at it thinking it would start doing something soon after i put it in there. Well this morning its burping along 1-3 times a second. no joke and im a grown man, mind you this is my first batch....I layed beside it just watching like kid in a candy store...every burp made me giggle like a little school girl...anyone else do this for their first time

 

Yup lol.

 

And once you smell the airlock, you'll be adding that to your "walk by and look" ritual... guaranteed!

 

I did the same thing on my first batch! As a matter of fact I was doing the same thing today only with a blow-off tube and jug. I love the "glub-glub" sound the jug makes! It never gets old!

 

One of the very few types of reproduction that is actually enjoying to watch from gestation to birth....no ones getting fat, no ones demanding chinese food at 2:30 am....

 

Never get tired of it..! Try fermenting in a glass carboy... watching the brew churn while the yeasties do their thing is almost hypnotic..!

 

Just smelt the airlock as its burping like crazy...its like the air freshener ive always wanted!! puffs of hops...sniff..sniff...its so beautiful..

 

After a few more batches under my belt i may..glass looks so nice..plus id like to see whats going on..

 

That must be universal! The SWMBO even named the newly fermenting batches "hatchlings".

 

Gotta love it, one of my favorite things about craft brewing. Of course we know what the first favorite is.

 

I remember my first brew. I almost wore out the steps to the basement going to check on it and listen to the airlock bubbling.......

 

Hah. I just brewed my first non-Mr. Beer batch on Saturday and did the same thing. All Saturday night I checked every ten minutes in the hopes of seeing some action in the airlock. Then woke up yesterday morning and it was like Christmas morning (it actually was Easter, I know...but that's way less exciting than Christmas), seeing the airlock bubbling away.

My girlfriend has walked into the bedroom a few times already to find me lying on the floor watching the bubbling. The first time, I got a weird look. Since then, she's just laughed.

 

Haha I have done about 8 batches and its still like waking up xmas morning to go look at the air lock.
Wait till u get a better bottle and use that for a primary.
that's much cooler to watch.
But im sure that joy will fade as I gain time goes on

 

Hell yes.Anyone who loves to brew has done this.Man I need to brew another batch so I can sniff the blow off aroma.

 

I'm at 26 batches, and the joy still hasn't faded!

 

oh i cant wait. Brewed on Saturaday and as of last night when I went to bed still nothing. This morning before I left for work the air lock was getting some pressure in it. Kit said up to 48 hours to start and it will be around 50 when I get home tonight. Should be flowing good. Sitting on cement floor at 64 dregees now.

 

+1 to this. Swirling beer is just freaking cool.

Also love the airlock smell.

 

+1 to watching the brew churn, stare at the airlock, and sniff it at every chance possible. Beer is magical!

 

LOL. I love it too. I even posted a couple of very short videos on YouTube...of nothing but bubbles.

 

I put a cup over the airlock to trap the aroma. Every now and then just smell the inside of the cup. It's magically delicious!

 

I like to think of the churning as my homemade version of the lava lamp, only better.

haha.i love the temp probe on the DMM.ive got one at work but never thought of using it for checking ferm temps.good one!the lava lamp really gets interesting when you dry hop!

 

I also made a thermowell for the wire thermocouple out of a 1/4 in. piece of vinyl tube that I stick down into my mash. It works great!
