Experimental parti-gyle

    So, I don't have any experience in parti-gyle brewing, but have been doing some reading on the topic. For [email protected]#$ and giggles I wanted to try something new, so here is what happened.

    I started off with a brown ale recipe I have been working on, recipe as follows,
    9lbs pale
    1lb Chrystal 60
    1/2lb Munich
    1/2lb flaked oats
    6oz chocolate malt
    2oz black patent

    Mash 154 @ 60

    1oz goldings 60
    1oz tettnanger 30
    1oz goldings 0

    Pitched wlp200

    So here is where the experiment begins. Add three pounds pale to already mashed grain along with 1/2 lb Chrystal, remash 60 min then single batch sparge.

    Preboil gravity was a flopping 1.026. Experiment should have been over but I'm no quitter. So I add 1lb amber candy syrup (because I had it) and a little honey. Original gravity now 1.039. (acceptable considering I only have about 9 bucks in this beer now), then racked on partial yeast cake from Cream of three crops. I dumped about half yeast cake out thinking that would be way too much for this tiny beer.

    So here is my thinking, this is going to be a thin, not alot of flavor beer, but beer none the less.

    Will update when this finishes.

    Not unexpected to have that low of an OG when your initial batch is already rather sessionable. Partigyle is typically most useful when doing a big primary beer.

    Yeah I kinda new that but was still hoping by adding some grain I would get a little bit chew to it, not so much. Was hoping for a little over 1.030 before adding sugar. Oh well, if its complete garbage, I'm only out a few bucks.

    It's a table beer english mild. It's going to be thin and low abv but otherwise should be fine. Let us know how it ends up :mug:

    So my second beer turned out fairly decent. A little thin but I purposely over carbed a bit to add a little zing to it. Worked out fairly well. @priceless brewing, a mild brown table beer is exactly what I got. Easy drinking and a nice little nut flavor.
