Is that a prediction, or just pointing out the obvious, White? Its been a great series. I'm sure today will be more of the same hard-nosed eastern conference battling that we've come to expect from these two teams.

NJ just took apart Philly, you don't think they can beat the Rangers? Bettman would beat off for NY/LA ratings though.

No offense intended, but Philly had a weak sauce forecheck. Every time they got close to Brodeur, he fumbled the puck. Right now, the Rangers have a powerful forecheck. They get the puck deep, making the defensive team skate more, they can change on the fly while putting pressure on, and they have generated a lot of scoring chances from back there. For the last 3 games, Washington has had brutal 3rd period play. Recalling how many times I heard Pierre mention "Green and Alzner are dead out there."
Washington has a tremendous amount of talent and grit. Backstrom has wheels! Laich, Hendricks, and Knuble have really found their stride.
Right now New York has their high-dollar forwards contributing, Staal is having the series of his life, and they are finding the right line combinations to generate energy and chances. Note I said chances, not shots. Shots/saves aren't as critical as chances in my opinion. Just because you rip it off the crossbar or whiz the shot right past the goalie's ear doesn't mean you aren't generating offense!!!

As long as Jersey can own the boards like they did against Philly. They can go all the way..

It's been said that the Caps are turning the Rangers playing style against them. Mainly shot blocking. So they should turn the Caps style against them. Big blasts from the blueline. Give em something to block, then then stick em on the rebounds!!

    LET'S GO RAnGeRs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure the Rangers can survive this round so I'll wait for the outcome of this round before I predict the winners of the next. Wouldn't want to influence Vegas ya know. :)

I see domination by the Caps, even when shorthanded.

That was a pretty weak call against ny.

I've actually been to Phoenix. The arena was about 50% full, and half of those people were Leafs fans. So out of 17k, we'll say that there were 4000 'yotes fans in there.

Here's the rub though - every single one of them that I talked to (I moved around to different seats a lot) was a die-hard hockey fan, and 9/10 of them had been going to the games since Day 1. Some (not me) would argue that there aren't 4000 "real fans" in the ACC on any given sell-out evening.

All of these Coyotes fans were super bummed about the state of their franchise, and really just wanted to enjoy things before the team left - which they know is inevitable. I actually would be happy for them if they won. All of them were very, very friendly.

I'm sure Jerzy can't be all that bad. After all, he is on this board. Seems to put on the blinders in my opinion, but to each his own. I saw a lot of missed calls tonight, but I saw more missed opportunities by the Rangers. At this point of the second season, all teams should win at home, but the lower ranked teams have found a way to win on the road.

I'm sorry, but anybody who thinks that any team but the Kings will be winning the Cup is either a homer or hasn't watched much of the Kings games.

Rangers in 6? Rangers couldn't even win against the Sens or Caps in 6. Heck, the Rangers may still not make it past the Caps. Kings took out #1 and #2 (#1 and #3 overall) with a combined total of 1 loss, and a 5-0 perfect record on the road. And whereas Holtby gives up rebounds like crazy (and still the Rangers aren't able to capitalize like they should), Quick has been giving up absolutely *nothing*. His rebound control is almost inhuman. And Brown single-handedly makes their PK just as dangerous as most teams' PP.

Unless the Kings give up or stop playing like they have been (and the heart, grit, and physicality with which they've been playing makes it seem hugely unlikely), nobody else stands a chance. And I am by no means a Kings fan. But since the Leafs never make the playoffs I watch just about every game I can, and fairly objectively at that. And having done so, I just can't see anyone beating the Kings at their current level of play. In fact, they're so unbelievably hot right now that I'd bet that they lose no more than 3 - possibly even 2 - more games.

Other than goaltending, we all read stuff like this about Philly after manhandling the Pens. I like how the Kings play, but how they matchup is going to be key. Obviously didn't work out for my Flyers, who almost everyone thought would destroy NJ.

I do think the West is going to have the Cup this year.

I had my doubts about Hunter as a coach, but he seems to have pulled it out.
I just want to know where this team was all season.

Holtby is a spectacle unto himself. Vokoun should start looking for a new job, if he hasn't already. Perhaps that's what he was doing instead of being in front of the damn goal all season long.

Eh, even you pointed out that the series was winnable by NJ if Brodeur was on his game. I think the people who thought Philly was invincible were only saying so because they beat the Pens, as they were probably the same people who thought THEY were invincible. But their defence/GAA was miserable and many people pointed out how Philly would have a tough time going much further without stepping up that part of their game. And many even predicted beforehand that the winner of the Penn series would be too worn out to go all the way.

And if you think the West will win it, your other choice is Phoenix. They've moved on, but it could easily have swung the other way, given how many of their games went into OT... Heck, their first 5 games did. It was mostly extremely close, whereas LA blew out two (arguably) much better teams, and did it with style. The Coyotes have also had miserable 3rd period play, when LA steps it up big time. And the loss of Torres is going to hurt them even more against such a physical team as the Kings.

If you really think a West team is going to take it, you pretty much have to predict the Kings. I KNOW nothing is guaranteed and that *anything* can happen. But if you're going to make a serious prediction or make an even-money bet with a friend, you'd be retarded not to pick the Kings. The only thing going for Phoenix is that Bettman would LOVE to see the struggling, *NHL-owned team*, whose subsidies from the city of Glendale are coming to an end, win and (hopefully) subsequently turn the team's fortunes around, much like what happened with Pittsburgh. But I don't really believe there's a conspiracy there, and even if there was, having watched every single Kings game, they've played with way too much heart and drive (under incredible leadership from Dustin Brown) to let themselves be a victim of such a thing.

The only problem that these fans have is most of them are transplanted Canadians. Take them out, and actual Pheonix fans from Pheonix, might fill up an entire section.

Yes, but while Bryz's numbers sucked overall because of the Pens series, he's the only reason they didn't get swept and all the scores were respectable.

A lot of us expected the Flyers to continue the physical play, they didn't.

We expected the power play to be lethal because it was against the Pens and the Devils PK sucked against Floriday. It wasn't.

The offense was supposed to continue to crush people on the forecheck, win puck battles, win the boards battles, and create traffic in front, like they normally do and did well against the Pens. They didn't.

The entire series was an embarrassment for everyone other than Bryz. Yeah, the Clarkson goal in Game 5 and a goal here and there, but overall, he was leaps and bounds better than he was agaisnt the Pens. But no one else really showed up. None of the players that excelled against Pittsburgh, except Briere, really played well against the Devils.

I think you're right, I just don't want to see Carter and Richards fondle that Cup or think of what they'll do with it. I'd be really happy for the other guys I've watched in Philly like Gagne and Williams, and I like Dustin Brown (one of my best friends since college played with him back in his days in NY) and I wouldn't mind seeing Quick put his name on it. It'd be awesome seeing a guy in person play in the ECHL near my hometown go on to win the Cup.

    That's what Detroit thought...

I'm not betting, I'm just being bitter.

Emphasis added. I think this is so true. It just seems that teams match up better against certain other teams. The NHL has achieved quite a bit of parity, at least layers of it. For my homer team (Pittsburgh) they sucked all year against the Flyers, yet were 4-2 against the devils and 4-2 against the Rangers. Yes, I know the playoffs are different, but still believe matchups result in some pretty unexpected things.

If I had to bet (which I don't), the consensus odds on the Rangers/Captials game 7 is:
    Washington +130
    Rangers -150
    so the rangers are favored.

The cup odds (as of now) are:
    Rangers 9/4
    Kings 9/4
    Yotes 7/2
    Devils 7/2
    Capitals 15/1

So if your'e a wild caps fan, you take the 15/1, the caps beat the Rangers, then the Devils, then whomever from the West. (I wouldn't make the bet, but ya never know.)

This is why the Flyers lost:

If they can't remove that attitude from the locker room they will never win anything.

As far as predictions go, I'm taking the Kings vs the winner of game 7 (which I already said I think will be Washington). Kings in 5. I will be on the Coyotes bandwagon until the wheels come off however.
