Greetings! I have been reading about biab recently and think this might be the way to go for me. So I have a few questions for the e biab experts out there.
What I would like to do:
1 use my current all grain bk. (Keggle)
2 go electric with 5500w element and pid using a kal type single pid set up.
3 recirculate with a pump to maintain even, consistent temp.
4 build a custom ss basket to hold my grain bag.
5 use a winch and pully to lift out basket

    Questions:
1 how does all of the above sound?
2 can I keep my whirlpool arm in my bk keggle?
3 will 10 gal batches be feasible? Higher graviry beers

Thats it for now. Thanks and cheers!!

It all sounds very feasible. 5 gal batches work well in the keggle and you could even swing 10g's out of it. Increased boil times but that size element should do the trick. I'm using a greatbreweh pump on the front of a keggle and i think it works better than the chugger 3/4" stainless I bought. Higher grav brews will probably need to stick to 5 gallons. Recirc should maintain your temps just fine. 90degree or a 45 degree angle outlet at the top of the keg will provide a nice whirl.

    Good luck

You can go as simple or complicated as you desire...from pumps and pids all the way down to heating strike water, adding grain and bag, placing a blanket over the kettle to maintain heat, then remove grain bag and boil.

Seems to work pretty well either end of the spectrum from caveman simple to current state of the art full automation.

    Cheers!

Imp. My whirpool arm is in the middle. Will that be ok? I built it when I was designed a three vessle system

    Some feedback:
    * I use a 15gal kettle to brew 10gal batches. Can be done w/out full volume BIAB.
    * I have a basket but don't use it, you just need a good bag.
    * Re-circulation and heating during the mash can cause a few issue, consider insulating the keggle instead.
    * Even w/out recirc pump is greating for transferring, chilling, cleaning, etc.
