I posted this in a different area originally but thought it'd be a better question/topic for this one.

Does anyone have pictures of their conicals in fermentation chambers? Any links to threads? I have an stc-1000 wired up to control a chamber and I'm thinking of using a chest freezer but I'm not sure if it would be the best option for a conical.

I am mostly interested in a conical for harvesting yeast. I'd want to leave the conical in the freezer and transfer the beer using C02. Will harvesting yeast be too much of a pain in the freezer? Is this the best option?

I had the same considerations in the past, then I realized this newer/cleaner way of harvesting yeast. Check it out RIGHT HERE!

Thanks Brulosopher, this is definitely a good option. I'm curious though if anyone currently has a conical in a chest freezer and if there are concerns or difficulties in dumping the trub or pulling yeast out of the bottom valve.

I imagine the only issue would be in maneuverability. The conical itself isn't going to care what type of ferm chamber it's in, you simply need enough space under the dump valve to put a collection container.

Unless you plan on lifting the conical out of the chest freezer prior to racking/dumping it sounds like a gigantic pain on the back to me and racking would require a pump.

Most chest freezers aren't tall enough for a conical fermenter. I'd suggest an upright freezer instead.

And, there's not many things that will throw out your back as much as bending way over (such as into a chest freezer) and lifting even moderately heavy things. And there aren't too many things as miserable as when you really tweak your back.
